For Machinery requirements, harmonised standards provide a voluntary route to demonstrate compliance; presumption of conformity depends on the edition cited in the EU Official Journal, the requirements covered and any restrictions.
Before 20 January 2027, newly marketed machinery is subject to Directive 2006/42/EC. Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 takes over on that date, with its transitional provisions.
Assess the installed assembly: users, movements, trapping zones, remote controls and protective measures. Record the risk assessment, settings, tests and handover of instructions. A component marking alone does not validate the installation.
Memo: the CE self-declaration process →NF EN 12453+A1 covers powered barriers accessible to people; it excludes, in particular, barriers intended solely for vehicles on motorways. NF EN 13241+A2 excludes barriers used solely for vehicles. Their scopes differ.
Consider impact beneath the boom, crushing at the pivot and uncontrolled movement. Arrange a separate pedestrian route and select safeguards to suit exposed people, the control mode and the surroundings.
A vehicle loop generally controls access: it does not protect people. For radar or photocells, verify the documented safety function, positioning and tests of the complete installation.
At handover and during maintenance, check safeguards, fixings, balancing and emergency operation as required by the instructions and use; keep intervention records.
At workplaces, Article 9 of the French order of 21 December 1993 requires inspections at least every six months for automatic or semi-automatic doors and gates, adapted to use, plus verification following failure and a maintenance log. The interval for other sites must be determined under their own applicable framework.
Summary guidance: the applicable rules and safeguards are recorded in the installation file, using the relevant editions and instructions.
